The Hare & Hounds Aberthin
Here at the Hare & Hounds we serve good quality food and drinks in relaxed and informal surroundings.
First and foremost, our pub is a thriving local watering hole that has been keeping locals’ thirst at bay for over 300 years. We still do exactly that, with great ales, interesting wines and homemade seasonal drinks.
Alongside the bar, we offer a small, daily changing, seasonal menu in our dining room. We use the very best produce that the Vale of Glamorgan has to offer. We have some of the most productive soil in the UK, which gives us meat, game and vegetables of the highest quality. The produce available to us from the best Vale producers, our own kitchen garden and our smallholding, dictate what is on the menu from day to day.
Everything is made from scratch in our kitchen, from our own sourdough bread and cultured butter, to fresh pasta. This is not pretentious fine dining; its just about good food, whether you’ve been for a long walk with your dog or have got something to celebrate. It is a type of regional Welsh cooking.
We are the proud holder of a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide, and we’re featured in The Good Food Guide, the Good Pub Guide and the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs Guide.

Our menus all change twice a day with the seasons, and can be served in the bar, dining room or garden under our stretch tent. Locality and seasonality is key, and the menu reflects the best of the days local produce.
At Lunch we offer our Lunch Saver Menu (2 courses for £20, 3 courses for £25) or A La Carte, apart from on a Sunday, where we have a Sunday Lunch Menu.
In the Evening, you can choose from A La Carte, Daily Tasting Menu, or our nine course Tasting Menu. On Wednesday and Thursday evenings we offer our Evening Saver Menu (2 courses for £20, 3 courses for £25), between 6pm and 7pm.

Tom grew up in Aberthin, and spent many an afternoon playing in the garden of the Hare & Hounds as a child. He trained as a chef in London, including in the award-winning Anchor & Hope and the Michelin starred St. John. He’s returned to the pub in which he had his first pint to promote the very best of Welsh food.

We are taking bookings for a maximum of 8 people online.

Dogs are welcome in the garden and the bar only; please telephone to make a dining reservation in the bar.

Hare & Hounds Bakery Pre-Orders: We’re now taking bookings for Bakery pre-orders for collection at Hare & Hounds Bakery, Vale Forge, North Road, On Fridays/ Saturdays (08.30am – 15.45pm). Please book any lunchtime slot for your chosen collection day and then collect at any time between 08.30am – 15.45pm, and book for the number of items you would like (packs of 5/6 = 1 item / packs of 10/12 = 2 items). Pre-orders required; you’ll be emailed a pre-order menu. Bookings must be made by 12pm Tuesday (for Friday collections) or by 12pm Wednesday (for Saturday collections) as it takes 60 hours to prepare & bake. Orders made after this time may be cancelled.
